Really though, other than a paint issue that was bad enough to warrant warranty repair, it has been mechanically flawless for 35k miles of torture. The only real complaints I have about it are that it’s cooling system isn’t up task on hot days with spirited driving and the factory lug nuts are a great way to leave someone with a flat, stranded. Again, AMA.

Lug nut comment confuses me. Is it hard to take the wheel off?
I’d be surprised if it even had a spare.

If its anything like my Focus, the lug nuts seize to the wheel, making it damn near impossible to get them off with a lug wrench. I have a 3' pipe in my car for just such an issue, and I still have problems with them.

Use anti-seize?

Not only will they seize, they strip with the force of a toddler.

It does have a spare though.

If thats an issue at 35k miles I hate to be on the side of the road with a flat at 150k miles.

3 foot pipe! Wow - I have one lug bolt that is a pain on my passenger side rear wheel that must be a hub issue because I have a second set of wheels/bolts and one of them sticks a bit as well. I just have a breaker bar that I keep handy just to make it easier, but it will still come off with a fourway and a bit of elbow grease.

Apparently it’s a thing common with Ford products.

If you rotate your tires/get them rotated, you’ll find out well before then.

Gorilla lugs.

What was the paint issue?
Hopefully we can get all the ST’s together at the Oppo meet since there will be at least two more besides us this time.

Hey man, at least you haven’t got Chrysler two piece lugs.
I cry every time.

The panel that has the hatch release button and Ford emblem was rubbing on the hatch, removing paint.
And I won’t be there :( My sister graduates that weekend.

Hmm, I may take mine in. I’m not sure if this applies or not but both my girlfriends and my car trunk/hatch sit just right where it’s rubbing paint off the rear bumper.
Ah damn, I thought you were coming! We’ll be missin’ ya

I considered making a midnight run, but it’s just not in the cards.

i Put a dab on my bolts before putting on the nuts,
This is not a Ford thing either, Did this on my Hondas, mazdas, Jeeps, and on my current Pathfinder and elantra.

I do it on every vehicle I own on every bolt I remove that doesn’t need to be loctite’d. Thanks northeast.

I never comprehend why manufacturers now seem to think that aluminum lugs are a good idea for wheels, a place where a signifcant amount of heat is produced during normal driving. And then an EXTREME amount of heat is created under heavy braking/agressive driving in the mountains. The damn things just melt and become shitty.
Unless Ford found a way to screw up steel lugs, then its just cost cutting gone wrong. Love me some gorilla lugs though.

That’s what I replaced the stock ones with!
